Opening the door and walking in... You strike a white plastic chair with your foot. You then look up to see a wooden bed against a grey, black, white marble-like painted wall. The carpet is dull looking with some swirl-like pattern on it. The adjacent wall meets a window covered with some white blinds. The next wall has six shelves in the corner, white ones on black supports, displaying some books and a few different types of elephants….
Sounds, perhaps; looks boring and dull? Wonder…..how loudly can colours speak or even offer up a whisper of accent. I wonder if any element of interior design is more personal than COLOUR..!!! Moody red, cool blue, vibrant yellow, lively green, earthy brown, lovely lavender, warm orange….. An endless cart to choose from. One just needs to expand one’s vision and notice new details, new colour harmonies. When you want to transform any space into a new look, the least and the most to do is…. Change the COLOUR.
Colour is not just colour, but reflects mood, throws temperature and speaks structure. I owe my colour sense to crayons…J. Pink girls, blue boys, orange kitchens, green study rooms, red-n-gold mandir. People often tell me, "But you don't use much color." This is not so. I build a simple background - usually of white or of a very light shade - for the use of color. Furniture of any colour, fabrics and drapes, accessories of different shades and styles look strikingly beautiful against such backgrounds.
